Vidya Valley School has made a remarkable impact on the global stage with its exceptional achievements in Cubes In Space (CIS). The school has prioritized STEM education, led by visionary Principal Nalini Sengupta, emphasizing hands-on learning and real-world applications in space science.
Cubes In Space (CIS) is a programme in collaboration with NASA to inspire students and teachers around the world to design unique experiments that must fit a 40mm cube. The most innovative experiments are selected and sent into space or near space environments on a NASA space rocket or zero-pressure scientific balloon. After the experiments’ journey into space or near space orbit they are brought back and tested, these tests and observations can prove fruitful for humanity. This programme inspires students to experiment and think outside the box creating new ideas that could benefit mankind.
Vidya Valley School has been participating in this programme for ten years. This programme was introduced in the school by the extraordinary Principal, Nalini Sengupta and Vandana Surywanshi. Today, the school has over 80 students participating with 24 experiments getting selected to be sent out into space and near-space environments. Under the mentorship of Mrs. Jaya Mishra, five experiments were selected; under the guidance of Mrs. Chaitali Shah five experiments were nominated; under the leadership of Mrs. Megha Gupta six experiments were selected; and eight under the guidance of Mrs. Joyeeta Adhikari.
This journey would not have been without the mentorship of Mrs. Vandana Suryawanshi and Joyeeta Ma’am who have provided their unwavering support and encouragement in designing the cubes and helping with the experiments. Principal- Mrs. Nalini Sengupta, Director – Mrs. Ipsita Rodricks, Headmistress – Mrs. Nilima Sawant, and Trustee – Mr. P.K.Sengupta were the constant backbones of all the teams that participated, they helped in creating an environment that allowed the participants to explore and innovate.
