‘The best way to predict your future is to create it’ – Abraham
Lincoln.’
Vidya Valley school provides children with an enriched environment, intellectual simulation and plenty of opportunities for socialisation from a very early age. The activities of the Sr.KG are designed with the interest and the need of the child in mind Some of the ‘star activities’ that make learning fun at Sr. KG level are:
Flameless Cooking Experiences
Every month we have flameless cooking experiences related to the project we teach children. Simple experiences like these are sensory in nature and hence bring a whole lot of excitement and learning. They also teach them to follow directions and children learn to develop skills in observing similarities and differences between things they encounter.
Field Visits
At Vidya Valley school, we believe that to take care of the environment , one needs to start early – as early as the child can take interest in the surroundings. As a part of this children are taken on field trips that are both educational and also that help create awareness amongst them regarding various issues. Taking part in field trips is one of the best ways to make learning fun for children outside the classroom. It also helps in improving children’s social and interactive skills.
Children were taken to visit Pashan Lake as a part of the water project. They were fascinated to see the clear blue waters, beautiful migratory birds and ducks swimming lazily in the water. They promised to take care of all the water bodies in our city by not polluting them.
A nature walk around Vidya Valley campus to observe different types
of flora while learning about plants. Children also learnt about the sources, uses of water and how water travels through pipes from our very own school surroundings during the water project.
Resource Person
Vidya Valley school provides a platform for parents to come in as resource persons and share their knowledge in their area of expertise. Paediatrician Dr. Amrita Shirude talked about healthy eating habits. In-house Nurse ma’am talked about Health and Hygiene Ms. Surbhi Lodha talked about the importance of the 3 R’s (reduce, reuse and recycle). As a follow-up activity children wrapped their used books with newspaper and exchanged with their friends. A weekend project of making paper bags for putting the child’s art work was done with a lot of excitement and helped create awareness amongst children about our environment.
Elocution /Poem Recitation
The ‘Show and tell’ which happens every month culminates in poem recitation wherein, 4- to 5-year-old Sr.KG children recite poem with confidence, expression and proper voice modulation. Germination Project
Project work, especially in early childhood provides children with a platform for applying skills that they learn in class. It also supports children’s natural curiosity and impulse to investigate things around them.
Children fill up the coconut shells with soil and sow seeds. Their joy and excitement knew no bounds when they saw the seeds become plants and the sheer joy and pride of owning the plant is beyond words.
Festival Celebrations
At Vidya Valley festivals not only bring in a lot of joy but it’s also a time to be creative. Kids find avenues to participate in creative activities like decorating, making diyas, garlands and different crafts. They also dance with a lot of enthusiasm to traditional songs.
Farm Day Activity
Vidya Valley school has its own farm patch where children enjoy being farmers for a day. They bring their shovels, dig soil and sow seeds. They understand the concept of food ‘From the farm to the table’ and also value the role of the farmer.
Science Experiences
Sensory and first-hand experiences such as feeling, touching, seeing, hearing and smelling are most effective in learning about different things and clarifying concepts.
Story Telling
Story telling is an excellent way to enhance language development. It also helps foster a love for reading and promotes creative thinking.in short stories are an amazing and interesting way to teach children about anything in the world. Children were enthralled listening to stories narrated by prominent story tellers Bharati Kanbargi, Dr. Sherline Pimenta and Sowmya Rajendran. Star activities like these make learning an enjoyable experience and children love to come to school. Apart from these Vidya Valley also offers an array of co-curricular activities like Indian-music, Western music, Dance, Yoga, Gymnastics and fundamental movement sessions. Every child participates in all these activities. This is what makes Vidya Valley school unique and extra special!
