Math in daily life

Math gives us life!!! From the moment a child is conceived our journey of mathematics begins, with every breath we take, with every heartbeat everything is calculated. It is all around us, in everything we do.

When we go shopping, we prepare a list of items we require, calculate the amount of money needed for it. While preparing food we always measure the different ingredients so as to cook the desired quantity only. While planning our vacation, we not only have to decide the place where we wish to go but book our hotels, tickets and have to calculate the budget also.

One has to be able to measure ingredients, count money, and determine limits when it comes to certain tasks like the examples given above. People never realize how much math is around them until they take a step back and look. One either likes math or dislikes it. One reason why students may hate math is that many of the concepts are abstract and can be hard to master.

Teaching methods used today stress memorization and the use of calculators. Students are taught by rote instead of analyzing and understanding, with the primary focus placed on test scores. Test scores are essential but not sufficient.

If we believe that the objective of quality education for our children is to develop the skills associated with learning and thinking, we need to do much more. New and innovative learning programs need to be implemented, integrating available technology to stimulate students’ creativity, imagination and confidence. They need more hands-on and effortful learning in order to spark their curiosity and enjoyment of learning.

Therefore, in our school, we use hands-on activities to explain various concepts. Ex. We use Rajma seeds to explain multiplication, addition subtraction, and division concepts.

Our world today would be lost without numbers. Without numbers, people would not read clocks, measure anything, call anybody, and much more. Everybody has been put into a position where they were presented with different forms of data that must have been organized in order to make decisions pertaining to the situation.

We use math every day no matter we know it or not. Math is so important in our lives. It is one of those subjects, whether we like it or not, people will need it for the rest of their lives. Without math, the world would be chaotic.

At last, I want to say that-   Studying mathematics not only develops more engineers, scientists and not to forget the HOMEMAKER, but also produce more citizens who can learn and think creatively and critically, no matter whatever their career fields are. Math is the foundation of every workforce in the world.
