The Vidya Valley School’s investiture ceremony is one of prestige and honour, with the agenda of appointing the prefects to their duties for the year ahead. Parents come as the audience to watch their children pledge to uphold the values of the school and promise to carry out their duties to the best of their abilities. The ceremony is inaugurated by issuing the respective badges to each student. Sashes were a new edition to this year’s ceremony, carefully thought of and designed by the students themselves. These badges and sashes hardly resemble the students’ achievements. Rather, they are a constant reminder of the responsibility the prefects have chosen to take on. It is merely the beginning of the journey, not the end of it. Throughout the years, the students have been tested, observed and ultimately chosen to be a part of the student council. The election process is a testament to the students’ capabilities of handling pressure and proving their devotion to their peers. The Student Council of the academic year 2026-27 have the qualities and values which every leader must possess. The investiture ceremony commemorates the school’s new leaders and officially gives them their titles and roles.
After the insignia presentation, the head and sport prefects take charge of lighting the candles. The illuminated candles held in the hands of the students symbolize commitment, enlightenment and leadership. The official prefects then raise a hand over their hearts, where on their uniform the school’s name has been written, and take an oath to fulfill their duties to the best of their abilities and uphold the school’s values of respect, integrity and honesty.
The lighting of the candles is followed by the acceptance speeches. The head boy begins by coming forward and speaks of his journey to reach his current post. Each prefects’ speech is unique, filled with stories of failure, coming back stronger than before and ultimately the gratefulness each one feels to be standing at a position of responsibility where they can give back to the institution which has given them so much. As the 29 prefects finish each of their speeches, every person seated in the auditorium is moved by the stories of the students. Each story carried its own value and personality, showcasing that every student is unique.
The ceremony concludes with a few words of wisdom from Ipshita Ma’am, Ravi Sir, P.K. Sir, Nilima Ma’am and lastly Nalini Ma’am without whom this lovely institution would have never come to life. For the past 26 years, Vidya Valley has been on the top of its game, from sports to academics. The investiture ceremony is a huge part of the school. The student leaders play a great role in contributing to the smooth functioning of all school events. This prestigious ceremony is not just an event but a tradition which has been carried out gracefully for decades and definitely many more to come.
