The Spelling Bee

The Spelling Bee, held on the 10th of August, was a new and exciting experience for me. I didn’t know what to expect and was eager to participate.

In the morning, I ate my breakfast quickly, then because ma’am said, I made a line. As we were about to leave, Medha ma’am came in and told us that selected students had to stay in class. So, we stayed inside and waited till Medha ma’am came.

Then she told us to come in and sit. Then later when I went inside, there was a posh arrangement kept. Teachers told us there were going to be some circles in a tray, so we each went and picked our own circle. There were numbers written on each circle, on my circle it was written 1. I finally understood what they meant, who would get 1st or 2nd chance for getting asked a question. The hosts of the spelling bee were Sayali and Sughand ma’am.

I sat on the first chair as ma’am instructed, then waited for the others to get seated. I was really nervous but proud that I had reached this stage. Ma’am then told us to listen carefully, that she would say a word and with the last letter of the word we would have to make a new word. Ma’am said the parrot, and I quickly replied tomorrow. The round went on till the last person stopped. I earned a few points. In the next round was that the teacher would give a word and by using the letters of that word we had to make a new word. When the teacher said save I thought for a second or two and replied vase.

The rounds went on and on and I kept earning points. Till finally the moment of truth. The last round had come. A bowl was placed in front of us. Each had around thirteen letters in them. Ma’am said that we had to make a word using all the letters. I arranged the letters in all the sequences I could think of but none of them made any sense. It wasn’t till ma’am gave us a hint. I had already arranged ‘trans’ and ‘tion’. I thought and thought till the word suddenly popped into my head. The word was transcription. I raised my hand and said that I was done. Medha ma’am said my word was correct, that I had come first in the Spelling Bee! I jumped up and claimed victory. The whole audience cheered for me.
I was filled with joy and it was an amazing experience.

Thank you!
